quick fix to an upgrade issue?

a while back, i had posted some options as to what i wanted to buy...

i am looking at a CPU on ebay,,,
Core 2 Quad 2.66Ghz/4M/1333 Q8400 SLGT6

it is completely compatible with my current mobo, and wouldnt require me to upgrade my PSU yet.

you think 139.99 is a decent price considering its almost a plug and play replacement( i realize not that simple, but still...) and that fact i do not need new psu, mobo or ram. its basically the quad core version of my current chip ( e8400 3.0ghz)

assuming i rock this out, would it boost the performance of my vid cards a bit as well? i am running two 8600gts in SLi, i realize they are older, but they do ok except for shogun2. Would the quad core allow some better graphics, or am i really stuck with what these give me now?

i have 3.5 hours till auction ends, and its a buy now deal, so i wont be in some wierd bidding war.( those blow)

I would just save my money for newer parts if you are looking to get a gaming rig together.

wont happen for too long. cheapest i can build a rig ill accept is 850$

I wish I could tell you exactly what you would get from those two extra cores but I just don't know enough about them. If your current CPU is holding you back then you COULD get a bump but like I said i just don't know.

Have you tried ocing that thing at all, if its an EO chip you can up the fsb without increasing voltage, im at 4ghz and im undervolting my e8500.
I also had the same question as you but was looking at the Q9650, in the end I dont have the cash to spend so ill wait until later and do a whole new system. You can get Q9650 with 65W ratings btw.

dont blame me, blame the makers of shogun2 and BF3 lol. A lot of time, ill play a game with the lowest settings, but only by my choice!! when the game does it for me, i am sad lol.

I thought cpu upgrade, gets me by. if i bought cpu, new vid cards, and new OS it would get me close to current and then i could save up for new non ebay cpu, mobo and ram. unfortunately i can drop more than like 150 out of my tax check... so this upgrade/new computer going to be a pain in the .......

For me its....

Q9650=350$ 1155 CPU/MOBO/Ram = 500$

Whats more future proof? :P
In the end im gonna wait, but if your that into gaming do what you think is best

BTW your e8400 is one step below my e8500. Im using an EVGA GTX 285, sometimes the cpu is slower sometimes the gpu is slower, all depends on the game.
