It looks like there was a slip of some information about the x79 chipset but like all leaks it could be inaccurate. On article notes that there are no USB 3.0 ports on the image that was leaked which would seem strange.

No, that is correct. The Patsburg PCH (X79) does not have native USB 3.0 support.

The next generation, Ivy Bridge, will offer native USB 3.0 support, I think.

My hope is that this will drive the new chipset will become popular enough that I can get an i7 970 cheap.

i like the fact is runs pci express x2 @ 16 x instead of 4x or 8x. with all my reading that is something to take into consideration when going to crossfire or SLi.
