    It's 2011, and I STILL can't get DSL??

It's funny, when broadband was making it's debut, and cable and DSL we're competing, remember when you'd go to Earthlink or some service, and you'd type in your phone # to see if you could get DSL?

I've been doing this EVERY years since the year 2000, and guess what, I STILL can't get DSL.

Why is this? I thought we had progressed in technology??

No not really, unfortunately DSL has limitations that some telcos don't want to commit to. I can guarantee there is nothing technically stopping your local telco from providing DSL to your area other than money.

Now, with that said, here's my prediction!

DSL and Cable is going to give way to the airwaves in the form of 4G and future technologies. With the available bandwidth these technologies can provide there really is no reason for hardwired technologies other than backups in case of catastrophic events.

So far cell technology has been tried and proven with events like 9/11, Earth Quakes, Country protests i.e. Egypt, Japan Earthquake, etc. just to name a few.

The main limiting factor so far is their ability to carry the hurried calls in these events when people start the panic wave of calls and overload the switches.

With new technologies such as the new cell tower the size of a baseball bat that can sit on top of existing structures, we are going to see a change in the way the cell networks are deployed and the limitations the large size towers bring will be gone. The main limiting issue then will be the publics hysteria on cell transmissions causing cancer or some excuse they'll make up.

I guess what I'm trying to say bro, is hang in there and pretty soon you'll be able to tell your local telco to kiss where the sun don't shine.

Funny enough, we were on a waiting list for about 3 years where we are as well. We were the very first customers to recieve cable internet when they started offering it heh.

You know what annoys me more? All the commercials. Sitting on my TV and seeing "AT&T 12mbps for 40 bucks!" and get all excited. I put it in and it says not available, I even called them. And now I spit on my TV every time I see that commercial.

Actually, didn't GOOGLE launch a campaign where local municipalities would particpate in using FIOS as the NEXT big thing in broadband??

Verizon and Google are working together on the Kansas city thing? I thought Google was working independently.

Grisu they should discount you for the lost bandwidth.

I have 8mb cause century link cant provide 10mb and they discount my subscription for it.

I wish they would. - In German contracts there are usually passages that clarify that the ISP only offers "up to" 16.000 MBit of speed. So users can't claim that speed if it's not available in the region. You can either take the speed they grant you or live in the stone age. There are also no cheaper contracts with lower speeds available.

My only chance is to switch to a high speed mobile internet (such as HSDPA).
