    The process has begun!

I have begun accumulating parts for my new PC. At this point I am just looking out for good deals on components. So far I have:

Enermax Revolution85+ ERV1050EWT - I picked this up at work about a year ago. Still new and in the box. It is overkill, I know, but I got it free. I guess the model has been discontinued. Here is the only site I could find selling it:
    Enermax 1050W PSU

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB - Once again probably overkill, but I found it for $150 last week.

Corsair H70 - Picked it up last week for $80 after rebate.

I also have an EVGA GTX 275 in my current system that I will use initially. I plan to turn my old system into a Home Server, so I won't need a video card in it any more.

I already have 2 750GB Caviar black HDDs and a 2TB Caviar green. Of those, one of the blacks will go in the new system. The other two will be used in the home server. I am also thinking of getting an SSD for my OS drive. Right now I am leaning toward this one:
OCZ Vertex 2 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

For CPU, I will probably get Intel Core i7-2600K

I really like this case: Corsair Obsidian Series 650D.

I have no idea what motherboard I am getting at this point. Need to wait for some reviews. I also want to get one with AMIBIOS.

I haven't decided whether to use the DVD burner in my current system, get a BD-ROM/DVD burner, or get a BD burner.

seems like I am leaving something out...

Anyway, I will continue look for deals for the next month or so, then I'll probably just bite the bullet and buy everything else I need. I am very excited about this! My current system has lasted me 4 years, but I am ready for something new.

I have the 850W version of that PSU and it's rock solid, that CPU will be smoking fast too.

Get the 2500K and overclock it. Use the money saved on a larger SSD.

The only thing that i can see that you're missing is a soundcard, however onbaord is very good these days and a seperate card is very rarely needed.

Take a look at this case for an alternative. It's been getting some good reviews.

"OCZ Vertex 2 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)"

Since I hate dealing with returns or customer service, the comments about this drive worry me. I haven't had to choose an SSD, but this link shows similar drives ranked by user ratings. Based on that, Mushkin, Kingston, or SAMSUNG might be a safer bet (and higher cost).

I have a PCI X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatality Pro. Seems to work well, but I'm not sure what difference it makes these days since most games just use software rendering.

RE: 2500k vs. 2600k I am kinda flipflopping. I wonder if the extra cache and HT are worth it...

RE: case that is by no means set in stone. I'll probably end up grabbing something I see on sale

Fyi I see a performance bump with HT on in BC2 in that in certain scenarios I was getting bumping up on the max CPU load, HT ended this.

I recently did a 2600k build, and honestly wish I had just saved the money and gone with the 2500k. Overclocked its more than enough processor for whats out there today, and a year or two into the future. Also yes, go for the ssd, the price is still a little high for them but damn, they sure are fast

Yeah, after looking at all of the bad reviews lately, I think I'm going to have to pass on that drive. Sucks, too, because right now I can get it for $170 after rebate...

After looking at some more SSDs, it looks like all of the drives that use the Sandforce are having issues with what seems like high failure rates. I saw similar complaints about Corsair, G Skill, and Mushkin drives, all of which use that controller. Speed-wise these are the best SSDs on the market.

Found a few more cases I like:
Cooler Master 690 II Advanced - This looks like a pretty nice case for the price. My only worry is that it may not fit longer video cards very well. I need to measure mine to find out how long it is.

Silverstone FT02B - This thing looks awesome but man it is expensive. I think this may be more than I am willing to spend...

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
