8.5 billion. damn, i left that in my other pants. big question is if it will still remain free. ebay bought skype a while back, but funny thing about fre services, you dont make any money .

First, Skype isn't entirely free, if you're using it to call landlines. Second, I believe they offer premium and corporate accounts.

Also, you have to look at data mining. There's companies that will pay a lot of money to get facts about who's using Skype from where and when. Plus god knows what else I'm not even thinking of.

Beyond that, you have add revenue. I haven't used Skype in a while, so I can't remember if it's included, but even a tiny add box like AIM has can probably be worth millions upon millions in add revenue.

Look at Google, most of their main profitability is through AddSense.
