    P67 MoBo is already obsolete

I ordered mine on Monday...and just called and cancelled and replaced with the Z68 that rolled out today

I'm not up on tech or Intel, could you tell me what a "Discrete Graphics card" is (listed as required on many of the mobos in the second link).

It means a separate card. The sand bridge void have video on the chip so if the mb has this capability you don't need one.

Z68 is supposed to be an "enthusiast" board. It frankly isn't that impressive to me.

The Gigabyte I looked at looked sweet and I only skimmed the article but I what I gathered that the big deal was that you could OC both the on board video and the CPU but most of those boards listed required a discrete video card so I may be mistaken. I think I'll read up a bit over my coffee.

So i guess the big thing is the caching ability of this bad boy.

                    I
ntel Z68 is the most versatile core-logic in the 68-series family for Core-i-series "Sandy Bridge" in LGA1155 packaging as it supports all the features that P67 and H67 provide. It not only fully supports overclocking of K-series microprocessors, but also allows to use integrated graphics at the same time. This feature gives additional freedom of choice and some people may find it useful. For example, it is now possible to use Virtu switchable graphics technology and utilize advanced standalone graphics cards only in games, thus reducing power consumption.

But the most important innovation of the Z68 is the feature called Smart Response Technology (SRT), which is a special hardware/software caching mechanism for SSDs and hard disk drives (HDDs). The technology attempts to accelerate boot time and runtime reads and writes by caching the content of hard disk drive onto solid-state drive.

I think that technology and speed of production have increased, also components are much cheaper than they used to be. Back In the day if you built a rig for gaming, what ever parts you used stayed current for about a year. Now from what I have been seeing is things like mobos and vid cards have a 5 to 6 month life span.
