any reason i should NOT buy these?

    Newegg.com - Hanns

was thinking about buying two of these to replace my old CRTs. Any of the specs scream "no" to you guys? my CRTs are old, so they run off old format 4:3 etc,, do not know what a decent resolution for a widescreen is. Infact, do not really know much about the lcd monitors period.

    let me know some opinions

ok, also just checked out my local microcenter, this one is bigger, slightly better resolution.

the emachines is lower cost, but is it cheaper?

Yes, viewing angle primarily. Secondary the odd screen resolutions.

You can skimp on monitors to a point, this is just a little beyond that point.

The viewing angle is the angle a person can stand off to the left and then stand to the right and still see. A perfect viewing angle would be 180 degrees.

Check out this monitor! For just a little more price you get a much better monitor on screen quality and the viewing angle is a lot better. There's even another one of the same type that skimps on contrast brightness and gives on size.

that 100 price point is key for me as i need to buy 2 of them if/when i buy.

but viewing angles, good thing to check out. what is a preferred screen res? i am really only familiar with the old CRT 4:3 format resolutions. i do not know what is good or bad in the LCD widescreen format.

Just an fyi, 1920 x 1080 seems to be the most common LED monitor format. Modern video cards will support that, plus many other resolutions.

With LED monitors, you'll always set the card resolution to match the monitor. LEDs don't scale smoothly like a CRT.

Also, since you're used to viewing a CRT, you'll probably want to ensure ClearType is enabled. This reduces the perfectly sharp appearance of text.

ok, that odd resolution on the hannsg would just make me mad, so its out. that emachines is apparently a joke!. microcenter has a 99.99 $ emachines that is a lot better, that 79.99 must be for those who just need a monitor.

i think that is more on the running. its 20 $ more than i want to spend, but they just do not seem to offer 99.99$ monitors without the quirks you guys told me to look out for.

At these prices, all the monitors are gonna be TN panels. Here is an explanation of what that means: LCD Panel Technology Explained - S-IPS, H-IPS, S-PVA, MVA and TN Its up to you if that is important in how you will use the monitors.

If you get anything under 22", its most likely gonna be 1600x900 as there are not many monitors under 22" with 1080p resolutions. I looked around Dealnews and there is a dell 20" for $100 also.

As furry said, most panels under 22" will likely be 1600x900 (or 1600x1024 16x10). I had a 16x10 20" for a while, and you will find a big improvement over the CRT. You can scale it down to a lower resolution if need be for certain games. I now have a 22" 1920x1080 that I was scaling down to 1600x900 in BFBC2 because my system was crappy. Everything still looked good. If you get a 1600x900 panel, though, you should be able to run it ok as long as your system isn't really old.

I have a GTX275, and it can handle 1920x1080 no problem. I would imagine an ATI 5770 could as well. My problem was with my CPU. I had a 4 year old system with an E6600 CPU.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
