EA trying to give steam a run for its money

Crysis 2 Pulled from Steam, Now Origin Exclusive (Updated)

    #2
I think it's a foolish move, I have had nothing but troubles getting things from EA and Crysis 2 has not only been out for a while but it kind of sucks. Now If I can't get BF3 on Steam I will buy a hard copy instead of going through the EA download process.

well did you read in the article there will be a special release available on EA's Origin only.. i wonder if it will be extra map packs, or just skins or something.

That will irritate me but if it's worth I might play along, I just remember how crappy they have been in supporting their games so I would think the same would be true about their online store.

I'll be buying a hard copy of BF3 no matter what. Digital download stores are screwing anybody not using US$ out of money.

I always get hard copies. Dont have to worry about bandwidth and troubles with corrupted files. Or getting almost done and something restarts your download from scratch.

Just scratched disc, lost disc or missing key code.

I'm a neat freak. The games that I install all the time are all hardcopies. However, I make digital images of all my favorite games and scan the keycode. Then I put them on 2 different External HDD's and forget about them until I want to install them again. Like a boss.

It probably won't matter if you buy a hardcopy or digital image:

EA will force the users to install Origin for the account activation, use Windows Live for the stat system plus Gamespy for the team chat...

Well it looks as though it was Steam that pulled it because of some sort of business agreement.

UPDATE: EA said that Crysis 2 was pulled by Steam because of a change in its terms. "It's unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis 2 from their service," an EA representative clarified. "This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA. Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service - many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam. Crysis 2 continues to be available on several other download services including GameStop, Amazon, Origin.com and more." -Thanks Tim!

Ah, but if this is the case, why is Crysis 2 the only game that seemed to be pulled?

I believe Steam's policy change is to not carry horrible sequels. So Crysis 2 had to go.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
