Plenty of nice deals on the Kingston 96gb SSD. They are going for about $100. Add a 1tb storage drive for $65 to the rig and you are set. Install the OS in the SSD and all games/whatnot on the HD.Oh if a man tried to take his time on Earth and prove before he died what one man's life could be worth, well I wonder what would happen to this world ? - Harry Chapin

As K Phan said, if your motherboard supports it, get SATA III. It will cost more, but you will get much better performance. I bought an Intel one, and it is pretty sweet. The OCZ Vertex 3's are supposed to be the fastest. Get at least 120GB, 250GB if you can afford it. I have a 120GB, and it is at least 2/3 full (plus my steam games aren't even installed on the SSD, otherwise I don't think i would have room). Also, beware if you use the transfer wizard to transfer your docs/music/pics over from your old computer, it will force you to put it on the SSD initially, so if you have a lot of stuff, use a different method. In my case, I should have just transferred the user settings and docs using the transfer wizard then a different method for the pictures, movies and music.

Ok SSD solid state drive .. Long story short it doesnt have to spin up like sata its already there ready to go , the best thing to do is to put your os on it and other important programs so they boot up super fast and run super smooth it wont be long before they are old news so dont go buying anything bigger than 120Gb i will put 20 bucks that a 500Gb SSD a year from now (currently at nearly $2000 will only cost you about $400 Why you ask? because they are not being MASS produced yet.. i remember when a 1 Tb HD cost over $1000 and that was in 2007 now they dont even cost 50 bucks lol

As others already mentioned:
+go for 120-128 GB (or more if you have the cash)
+only buy known brands with good support / frequent firmware updates
+get Sata III for a slight performance increase
This is a recent test of SSDs (German only):Test: Drei aktuelle SSDs (Seite 10) - 01.07.2011 - ComputerBase
The OCZ Vertex 3 got their vote.
I'm using an Intel Postville 2gen (80 GB). Steam is installed too, though I have only installed 1-3 games at once. The backups are on my external TB USB 3.0 HDD. So I can install them if needed in no time.
Hopefully will go for solo SSDs for my next build in order to get at truly silent PC...

Loco,
the advice everyone is giving is dead on. Minerva and I both use SSD's for the operating system and big cheap hard drives (1B) for storage and everything else.
Both of ours are Intel. Mine is slightly newer so the SSB and Mobo had SATA 3 (nice, but not sure noticeable).
I would say go with what you can afford. you will notice the difference immediately. OCZ, Corsair and Crucial are the biggies with Intel.
