    I Broke it!

Heey! So. I thought the 480 is broken. It isn't. At least it isn't the only broken thing in the desktop. I turn the PC on. It works for 2-20 minutes and then freezes. Either it freezes or auto restarts. I tried replacing the GFX card with my old 8800GT. Same problem. So it takes the GFX out of the question. I tried reinstalling windows on 1 SSD using AHCI but it froze too. I'm at the point of experimenting with everything. I'm using my tablet to keep up. Which do you guys is causing the problem? 2 things left. It's either my new mobo or the new CPU cooler. It's at 30C according to the BIOS. Could it be my first faulty eVGA product? Could it be my SSD Drive? They installed fine. I'm not in a real hurry to fix anything. Not have a computer for the first time in 5 years really gives you time to do stuff around the house.

Other points: Tried Safe mode - freezes
    uninstalled nvidia Drivers. Nope.

    Any help would be appreciated

Good, then the $35 offer is still on.

It would be a pain but put everything in the old MB and try em. If you got time. Process of elimination. You got an old drive with an OS on it try it in the new board. Just go down the line til one fails. Should be able to figure it out if you have enough replacement parts to troubleshoot.

Seems you already eliminated the GPU being the problem. If the bios is at 30, it could very well be the MB, but dont rule out heat just yet. Sometimes it may cool just enough to boot up. Dont know about yours just yet.

    Keep us posted.

My friend told me to see what happens when I run it with only 1 memory stick. Seems to be working so far. It didn't post at first. Posted after restart. Still working. It's been a few minutes but hey, I'll wait for it to freeze to rule it out, or in.

Ah, didnt think about that. Yea sometimes MB can be picky about ram. Mine fired right up with 6gb never had any problems. Runnin Gskill. Did you buy new Ram or no.

This is RAM that I don't plan on replacing any time soon. 12GBs of Corsair DDR3 Dominator goodness. So now that I can see it's working with 1 stick. I plan on testing the other sticks and probably end up with a dead slot. Corsair RAM doesn't die!

Okey dokie. So how about the $35 offer for the 480. Sell it to me, you know you want too.

I have that Ram in 3 computers and I have never had any problems with it. It would be easier to replace the ram rather than the MB though.

So I'm up to the third RAM stick. The second one I put in did post, but then made my Mobo beep about 20 times in 2 seconds. Some noise I've never heard before. Hopefully it's the only dead RAM stick. Good thing I have 12 of them.

May want to do a little research before thinking it's the ram. If it was working in the old one, it just didnt go bad since you shut down that machine for the last time. Could be the board and compatibility issues. Never know in those cases exactly what it might be. Could be as simple as disabling something or checking on the slot sequence.

sounds like the same problem i was having most likely is either the ram sticks or a faulty fan, as it would seem you have figured out it would most likely be the ram sticks, just try em one by one

So no, screw it. I went ahead and tested all 6. 2 didn't post. 2 posted but made the mobo scream for mommy with 30 beeps. 2 actually worked. All tested on the same slot. I already thought it was the mobo's fault. I decided to go ahead and do the painful job of removing everything and reinstalling the old mobo. I'm running on it right now. Let's see what happens. It can't possibly be my RAM. The thing about the new mobo I got from eVGA, it was clearly refurbished/resealed and sent to me. Even thought I bought it retail. First bad experience with eVGA? Yup.

                        CHECK YOUR TIMINGS.....
No 2 motherboards are the same.
If the mobo and ram support XMP then turn it on. And see what it does.

Also you should be able to disable the autorestart and get a bsod which is far more useful then a random restart.

I was having all kinds of issues with my new gigabyte board including a restart loop that would not let it get to post. After setting XMP it hasnt given me a single issue.

Well... still haven't had an issue since I put back my old mobo. I think auto timing should have taken care of the RAM to begin with. Should be default. Anyways, I'll be chatting with eVGA soon trying to get a refund.

Edit:This thing is starting to annoy me. The whole AHCI, RAID, and IDE is going wrong. I put AHCI, the DVDR doesn't work, or is making me problems. I use RAID, windows installation wizard can't find the RAIDed HDD. I take em off RAID and it sees them fine. I gave up and until further problems I'm gonna run separate SSDs. I tell ya what, nothing turned out like I wanted it to be. Except maybe the H70 cooler. That thing is working very well now. 38C.

I was looking at reviews for the newer Asus boards and man, it seems they are starting to crank out crap for boards. Switched over and looked at MSI, and they seem to have their act together.

EVGA even had some level of dissatisfaction on a few they had. Seems like quality boards are going down hill fast. I just dont understand it. The Asians usually do pretty well when it comes to quality control. But seems like lately its been lacking.I wish the Japanese made motherboards.

I have never had good luck with Auto Timings on any boards.

And I was having all kinds of problems with my Gigabyte board till I turned on the XMP which is built into alot of ram nowadays and tells the mobo what timings to use.

AHCI is a pain in the arse to.
