Cain wish i could help i've been reading up on overclocking but by trying this on my own i have created a lot of problems. Be careful you can seriously dmg your computer if you screw it up.

I just got to Fargo and I'm out at 1100 tomorrow so I should be able to help. For a bit. I will have to search my memory banks on overclocking those older chips. See if you can find some settings on the internefor your mb.

I haven't had component that can be overclocked on defoult speed ever since i bought my first PC in 1997. If you read careful before you do it you going to be safe. And i personally have everything OC to extreme limit all my parts.

@Cain first thing to know is to be able to OC to decent level you have to have good cooling.

So in order to help you with OC-ing let us know what kind of heatsink you have? because if its stock it will be very limited OC.

If you are running the stock Intel HSF, that's the first thing to take care of. Replace it with a CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ found here:

              http://www.frys.com/product/5971334
Note: It was $15 last week, but just went back up in price $10

All I did to OC my setup was change the FSB from its default of 300 to 350 to go from 2.66ghz to 3.5. Since your chip runs at a faster 1333fsb, the numbers will be different for you compared to mine.

See this thread for some basic info on OC'ing:
              http://www.overclock.net/overclock.p...uide-intel.htm

This video shows how to make it to 4.3ghz, which is well within what the chip is capable of.
              http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...c7zhHA&cad=rja

I'd try your FSB at 400 or 433 to start.

              400fsb x 9x multi = 3600ghz
              433fsb x 9multi = 3900ghz
              466fsb x 9 multi = 4200ghz

Note: the first two listed above may be tested at default voltages, meaning you won't be adding any more 'juice' to the chip, so it won't even run any warmer than at stock speeds. Even so, the CM 212+ HSF is well worth the peace of mind and is the best budget heatsink available today.

Serious damage by overclocking? That's only going to happen if you start to put unsafe volts through your chip.

Overclocking is actually very safe. The only problems you'll really come across are system lockups and BSODs if your overclock is unstable. This can be fixed by entering the bios and reducing the overclock or simply resetting the bios.

One thing to make sure to do that WT didn't mention is make sure your PCIE speed is locked to 100Mhz. It usually is, but sometimes it can be set to auto depending on your board and will rise with the FSB.

On another note your RAM may hold you back. Once your FSB passes 400Mhz you'll be overclocking the CPU and RAM depending on your divider. If you can, make sure the divider always has your RAM equal or below it's max rated speed. It'll be easier to overclock that way and any ceilings will be created by your CPU and not your RAM.

Here's a multi-part series of 10-minute youtube videos for how to overclock a Gigabyte EP45 UD3P. It might help where written words fall short.

Juneau says truth. The stuff he mentioned is what most people dont realize when overclocking. Specially with these newer boards that have the built in controllers tied together. Older stuff was more forgiving and you could do something to one thing and it wouldnt affect the other.

Cain I entered the basic information about you RAM that you provided but the voltage it will take could depend on the grade of their RAM. I thin you could go to 2.1v if this is correct.

                        991580 - 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 Blackline (Module)

If you can get more detail on the ram by looking ant the sticker on the stick then you could look up the exact specs for it on the Mushkin website and set the voltage to the max allowable and see if you BSODs go away.

                          Very good advice, thank you...

I read somewhere that with my MB it overclocks better if only two RAM slots are occupied. I have all 4 occupied.
