When I retire my Plantronics head set I think this is going to be my new purchase:

The new headset I have now is the G930. Love them.

I would advise against Medusa headsets.

IMO you will get the best sound from a discrete card like an X-Fi, followed by USB, then onboard. True surround sound headsets with multiple speakers in each ear cup will probably sound the best, but X-Fi (and from what I have heard Logitech) has great virtual surround sound. I get great directional audio with my X-Fi card and Sennheiser headset.

Actually I think the gap has narrowed considerably between commodity sound chips and add on cards (why else would Creative be releasing a commodity chip). Also I totally disagree about USB. I would put it at the low end of the list. The reason is USB must still take CPU cycles to drive it while onboard and dedicated cards have HW acceleration

G930, for <100$ its a steal.

I have not noticed that, but I have noticed that the noise for when the charge is dying is barely audible when playing a game.

I also find that it feels alittle weak, in how the ear pieces will rotate. I am excessively gentle with my headsets though, so I don't see this being an issue as long as you are not tossing it about.

I've put off on getting these, they had to many delays in release over possible design issues...

Was suppose to release 4Q of 2011, then was pushed to end of Dec, then end of Jan, and now end of Feb...

Blah...

Maybe later this year.
