Oh contrare, its now cool to use Libre Office !!!
You can also install the Office compatability tool and use that to open and work with some simple docs.

I had to buy office it because my wife must use it with her work, trying to get her to use something else is futile, she also has a knack of finding the most expensive option in all aspects of life.

I ended buying a three license package of the student version for a $90.00. This also helped with my stepdaughters projects at school so it was worth it IMHO.

I tried one of the free ones for my wife's laptop, Open Office I think, and it did not open Word documents correctly. The formatting was all messed up.

I had my resume in word format. I updated it in google docs and sent it in. They called me back so....it can't be all bad. Duke it used to be (and may still be so) that MS allowed you to install MS office at home if you used it at work from the same license

Hmmm I should have looked into that at the time, you would think the Hospital would have given her a copy.

It's too late, this all happened a long time ago and the wife is happy with the machine (except when Mini and I are hogging all the bandwidth.) and her happiness is well worth the expense.

Not to hijack the thread but what Dukie Duke said brought back memories of a former part of my life.

Happiness is a funny thing. Some say you cant buy it, others live their lives not knowing how to find it. Back when I was bitchin about my ex wife one day and all the money she was costing me, a friend of mine told me this.

"There aint no price on peace"

After all the dust settled and I had time to reflect on it all. He was right. It was well worth not having her around me anymore no matter what the cost.

You did the right thing Duke.....you did the right thing.

Dont know what work you do Golden, but definately worth checking into availability from there. Through the school board my wife gets an office pack, word, excel, power point, bunch of programs for $10. (Wife is a middle school teacher)
