Well who need their heatsink anyway? I never used stock heatsink last 10 years.

It makes sense, enthusiasts will want their own cooling.

Makes sense to me. SHould allow them to lower the price by a few bucks, too.

The heatsinks they come with suck. Plain and simple. Better to go with an after market cooler.

            +1

In addition it increases Intels profit margin. So a wise step.

Is this the CPU I want for my new PC?

If you have the cash and are willing to wait for it, it will probably give you the most performance and longevity.

I paid almost top dollar for my 1366 rig, it will be two years old when I load BF3 on it and I think it will handle it quite nicely and therefor well worth the investment.

Ya I heard the E series is going to be pretty good. But I heard it draws so much heat that even liquid cooling cant keep it at safe temperatures. Thats just what I heard.

This would make it a hard sell, a CPU that can't maintain a safe temperature.

You can't send a CPU over without a CPU cooler. There has got to be an idiot somewhere that would put in a CPU and not use a heatsink... then sue. No matter how bad their heatsinks are they still save you from core meltdown.

Well thats why there is a warning in the box somewhere that says something like "Do Not Attempt to Operate This CPU without Proper Cooling Device".

E is the enthusiast class so its going to be top dog on tech and heat. But I cant see it putting out so much heat that a decent air system cant keep up. They say they are goin to stay within i think its the 130 watt range, which CPU's have been in that range for years.
