So, I just pulled the trigger on a 16GB Toshiba Thrive. I've been going nuts trying to find an HP Touchpad at the firesale price, and after several weeks of constant searches and investigation, I've gotten fixated on the NEED for a tablet. I was going to go for an Asus Transformer, because it's relatively cheap and has an awesome keyboard dock that turns it into a netbook, until I saw this:
This model of the Thrive, which is the same price as the Asus, comes with a $70 Newegg promotional gift card for the next 12 days, until 9/30.
Staples had a deal in late July/early August with a $100 off coupon for most tablets. After that, I think this Newegg promotion is going to be the best deal for any tablet outside of perhaps a tiny handful of tabs at good discounts available in stores on Black Friday this year. I think it will be like when DVD and Blu-Ray players first came out--they had fantastic deals (e.g. I got 5 free DVDs of my choice with my player about a year after DVD hit the market) that dried up as the technology spread enough to be self-sustaining.
If you guys are on the tablet fence, this may be enough to help make a decision. I'm going to apply the gift card toward my own new PC build, which I hope will happen no later than next March/April when I get both a tax refund and a 3-check month.
-Rand
P.S. I added a G500 mouse to my order since they're also on sale this week, and that's the second component after a 1tb data drive that's going with my new box. Wins all around except to my credit card.
