I've been looking for a while now. I had newegg send me an email notice last night for a Gigabyte 6970. But I got the email late last night and by the time I looked at it 3 hrs later they were all sold out.( I had been engaged in checking the alcohol content of some cans I found.)

Then just by chance I happened to check Amazon last night before I went to bed. They were selling them earlier but they were actually selling future arrivals with 1-2 months delivery. I didnt want to be left hanging that long so I passed them by.

But last night when I cheched again they were in stock. Woohoo.. So I jumped on it. Seems these cards are in a heck of a demand. Seems the prices have been up $10-$15 since I started looking. Just from the amount of people building new rigs from our site, I'd say that there are a vast amount of people gearing up for BF3.

How do I know it's BF3. Cause any of the Cod maps didnt even put a strain on my old 9800 GTX much less these new cards that are out now. With this GTX 275 I have now, I get up in the 80 - 90 fps on all Cod games. I cant do that with BFBC2. So, I know people are buying them for BF3.

Dice and EA have made the computer industry very happy the last few months. And they will start to make even more when people that didnt upgrade find out that they dont have a machine that will run the game properly. Least that was my line of thinking.

Oh and the price of the card was $379.94 with free shipping.

You might see a little performance increase by bumping your CPU to 3.8. I say if it is stable at 3.8 can't hurt.

I read on some site yesterday that AMD was fixing the newer cards to where they wouldnt be able to jump the 6950 up to the 6970 with the firmware flash. Dont know it thats true, but I know many have flashed that card and got the same thing as a 6970 but with a 6950 pricetag.

Some have had success. Some havent. I guess it's just depends on the card and mfg.

Its not actually a firmware flash - what they are doing is laser cutting the dies to the extra shaders so that they cannot be re-enabled.
If you have a 2gb card, and it has a dual BIOS, you are relatively safe trying a BIOS flash as a test of the 'failed' shaders .. you simply flip the switch to the other BIOS and you can then use the card at its stock settings.

Sapphire's Toxic is a bit different in the 2gb 6950 class, as they use not 2 6 pin power leads but a 6+8 pin setup to give the card more juice. They also pre-load the 6970 BIOS on as the second BIOS, thereby saving you the effort of flashing the card yourself.
