Can You (2) GPU With Different GPUs?

Has anyone ever tried to take (2) different nVidia cards and dedicate one to graphics and the other to physics?

I have a 9800GT and I'm about to buy a 560Ti. I was thinking of keeping the 9800GT and dedicating it to physics and dedicating the 560Ti to graphics.

Can this work? and will having a card dedicated to Physics help gaming performance in BF3?

They have to be the same chipset (i.e. 9800GT with 9800GT, brand doesn't matter) if you want to SLI them. However, what you are going to do is not SLI them, you are simply running both at the same time, not connected. Just plug both cards, go to nVidia Control Panel and dedicate the 9800 to Physx.

In regards to better performance in BF3, it won't happen. Only games that use Physx will have improved performance. BF3 uses Frostbite, its own technology. And trust me, even if you had a game heavy on Physx (Batman Arkham City or Asylum) you will notice slight increase in performance since you already have a much stronger card running everything else.

Yep. what he said. PhysX isnt utilized so no need for it.

My question is, why is it not used in more games. Is this some thing that is hard to utilize in games. Or in BF3's case it's not better so it isnt used.

Seems this PhysX thing is overhyped and not being used that much.

PhysX has its own APIs that need to be supported by the game. Since there aren't really a lot of computers out there with the HW needed for PhysX, not many game companies have gotten on board. I guess they see it as a waste of resources since so few people will be able to benefit from it.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
