I almost got a basic one for my father inlaw but my wife insisted on the other one, I think he would have liked the basin one just as much.

    Enjoy your new reader.

      Congrats Juneau.
I have and love the Nook Color. I also rooted it so I can use it as an Android Tablet too.

I have what they now are calling the kindle keyboard wifi, no ad. It's awesome. No need to root a nook now that I'm typing this on my Toshiba Thrive while reclined in my laz-y-boy.

No eye strain on kindle. Bonus.

The Nook Color has a card slot for up to 32GB of extra storage. The new Kindle fire does not. As many books as I have on mine I like having the extra space. Another reason I like the NC, I can read in the dark. This great when my wife is asleep or driving at night.
            Juneau get Calibre. http://calibre-ebook.com/
It is a free program and allows you to edit your ebooks. You can convert from one format to another. This allows you to buy books in other formats and does not limit where you can buy your books. Except you are limited but sellers to what is allowed in your country. For example I would love to buy Alistair MacLean's Breakheart Pass as an ebook. It is not available in North America. So much for a Global Economy.
Another thing I like about Calibre is you can use it to strip DRM from your purchases. I believe that I can use my purchased ebooks just as I use my purchased pbooks. I automatically strip the DRM from all of my purchases.
Calibre also has library management and it will sync with your ereader.

I have the 'keboard wiff 3g' one and absolutely love it.

I was looking at those new ones yesterday, going to add the touch to my Christmas wish list I think. Don't think I would like the color one as the E-ink rocks - no eye strain at all, as Rand pointed out.

Do you get eye strain looking at your computer or TV during the day? I use my NC constantly and I do not get eye strain.

Computer, yes. And my uncorrected vision is 20/400 and 20/450 depending on eye, so the less strain, the better.

You are just some sort of freak of nature, perhaps since your age preserves some organs and functions us norms have lost. Take, for example, your ability to read, in the dark, in your car. I can't look down as a passenger for more than 10 seconds without getting that car-sick feeling come rolling along.

Yep. On the computer. About 1.5 hours max before having to take a break.

I think my wife is going to get me either the new Kindle touch or the nook touch for Christmas. She has an older nook and really likes it.

I'll have to check out Calibre.

It's awesome! I use it mainly for formatting/pushing RSS feeds to my kindle. Smithsonian Magazine, WSJ, USA Today, several blogs.

Does the new nook support multi-touch?

My father was military and I grew up traveling long distances in a car. I can read or even sleep in a car and wake up feeling as rested as if I was in my own bed.
I have been reading anything I can get my hands on since I first learned to read. When I say I am a readaholic I am not kidding.
After I got my NC my wife suggested that I would now be able to get rid of all the books in our house. I was shocked and told her to leave my books alone.
I have one room that is all bookcases and the ones holding paperbacks are double filled and stacked. Then I also have bookcases in my office and every bedroom.
