Comcast Internet Upgrade

Being fed up with seeing my friends downloading a 8GB game within two hours, I decided to do something about it. I recently called Comcast and checked out what kind of speeds I can get. It seems that it doesn't matter about your location- If their Cables can reach you, you can get their maximum speed. I used to pay about $50 a month for 1.5mbps internet, which is crazy! I decided to go for their second fastest speed. The package was $99 for 50mbps. Of course I did not pay just that. They add $16 if you get Internet without Cable TV or Phone. And another $5 to rent the modem. It seemed like a huge upgrade. So I did. I received my Docsis 3.0 modem today. Installed it, and had my MAC provisioned. After another 30 minutes with customer service, I got my maximum speeds. I just downloaded a 400MB file in under 2 minutes. What a fantastic boost. I'm going to preload BF3 in under 20 minutes. This is going to be fantastic!

Damn... Beat my Comcast's 20Mbit down and 3Mbit up for $40 a month (year promo), but then they have those spiffy 250GB monthly caps, so you could easily "Bust a cap"

That's great speed but not worth the cost to me. I'll stick with the 25 mbps DL I'm getting now.

Mine 25mb/s up and down. Speedtest servers never give me an upload of 25 mb/s though

Sigh, as much as I hate Comcast my Uverse connection just cant compete. Back to Comcast I'm going when my contract expires.

Good luck with Virgin. Didn't they just make it a requirement to sign a form just to be able to access pornographic sites? The whole "save my children from porn" parents get on my nerves... censor your own god dang internet.

I kind of miss waiting 30 minutes for my TV shows to download. Now it's just a flash and it's done.

BTW Comcast has a 105mbps plan. Verizon has a 150/35 plan though. Not in my area however.

Northstate Communications is supposed to be providing me 30/30 for $29.99. Best speeds I have seen out of it have been 20/15. Not bad though. Better than paying $50 for what the typical internet is.
