    Win7 user account help

Just a quick rundown as it's late and i'm falling asleep at my PC.

*Just fixed GF's dad's netbook from some nasty spyware after having it for 3 weeks!
*Decided that he's really not the person to be using a full Admin account on Win7 for 24/7 usage.
*Setup a standard account for him to use.
*Two apps that start with windows (some junky Samsung stuff that's preinstalled) ask for the admin password to let them run. Probably because of single user install.
*What's the best way to allow these two apps to run without the need to enter the admin password everytime you get to desktop?

I never use users accounts so i'm not 100% sure which is the best way to go about this. Ideally i'd like to select the entire /progfiles/samsung folder and its subdirs and stop any chance of any apps in there asking for the admin password.

I'd just remove the Samsung junk myself.

I've not tried it myself and the only information I'm finding involves creating tasks or storing admin credentials in run as when you run a program. Or using a third party app to control passwords.

I would, but at the end of the day it's not mine, so i don't want to mess around with it too much.

Seems a little long winded. I was hoping there would be a few options under windows that i could change.

Any more ideas? Would folder/file permissions help?

There is a way to provide admin permission for apps so you don't have to provide a password every time. I know you can do that when you load a program through task scheduler.

Not sure this is what i really want. But not having played with account and permissions before, maybe it is?

Try the UAC elements in the control panel. Since that thing takes care of access permissions it may do what you need it to do.

I know user account creation and editing isn't as fully-featured as we may like. I'm now on a default account with "2" after my name because I had to start over to fix an error with the new system and it had a legacy reference to the original. Too late to change and I can't figure out an easy way

OK, i've been spending sometime changing setting in Win7 and searching around google and it would appear what i'm trying to accomplish is impossible, at least without installing 3rd party software.

Circumventing the administrator password on application loads would go against the purpose of UAC on standard accounts.

Oh well, he'll just have to live with it.

Looks like I am late this this, and it seems you figured it out, but yes, what you are trying to do is near impossible without some third party software which I would not use.

The only thing I can suggest is uninstall those apps if they are not important, or just disable them from running on startup.

You might want to create a script to start the software using the 'runas' command http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...8WS.10%29.aspx. The option you will want to look at is the '/savecred' option.

I was thinking of doing something like this. However i think i'd only do it to my computers.

My GF's dad has a knack for breaking PC's quite easily, and no doubt he'd find and somehow break the script.

Just handed the netbook back to him. At least it's usable now... but for how long?

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
