    Labeling cables

I'm trying to figure out away to label cables and I have also been thinking some labels would come in handy for organization. Does anyone have any label makers they like? Do certain labels fade over time or wear out?

Is something like this OK? it plugs into a PC...
Newegg.com - brother PT-1230PC Thermal Transfer 10 mm sec. 180 dpi PC Connectable Label Maker

Or a stand alone unit like this?

If you have a garage, get the stand alone version.

Thermal Printer labels last forever and I use them in my store. You can throw jewelry, with labels on them, into an ultra sonic cleaner with a heater and they come out undamaged.
Unfortunately I doubt you want to spend that kind of money to label your home wiring.

            The printer is $400.00.

This label will print three lines of text on both sections and with a bar code reader you can scan it to find out everything you wanted to know about your wire.

I have a template that labels all of my hardware, such as this:

                              Video Cards
                              Hard Drives
                              DDR2 RAM
                              SATA Cables

I print it at 72 font size, bolded, and then cut each out into a rectangular label that then gets taped onto the side of the shoe-sized (or larger for video cards) containers. They are see thru and I've adjusted my shelf height to be able to store them stacked. Pics available upon request.

So simple, involves no 'labeler' other than a few sheets of paper and a scissors, and its convenient to see into them before opening.
