    Ipad2

Anyone own an Ipad2 and can give me some feedback about it? Am thinking of buying one for my daughter for christmas but im torn between the ipad and the cheaper Fire from amazon. Just cant decide whether or not should spend the extra money for the ipad over the fire as all I believe she will be doing is streaming movies, social networking, and web browsing.

I haven an iPad (first version) and I like it and use it a lot. The biggest benefits with the iPad are the better app store and a better screen.

I cannot speak for the Fire, but the iPad is very durable, easy to clean, and now with iCloud, easy to sync (it was easy to sync before, now it is effortless).

I just got an Ipad 2 last week. keep in mind that the kindle fire has no dedicated volume buttons. So if your listening to a game or video, you have to exit out, go in settings, select volume move the slider. I have an andriod phone and I hate it. My Itouch runs circles around it. Plus the Itunes store is leaps and bounds better. I also think the aps are much nicer on the Apple devices. I have their equivalents on the Android and they don't look or work as nice. When you buy Apple they will support your device for a long time. Andriod devices become red haired step children and get no love lol.

Don't know the situation details, but a Fire is less to worry about in case of theft or damage. Also, I would expect anything you buy to be replaced in a couple years by something else. iPad2 is clearly a better & more capable device, but if a Fire plus some subscriptions will meet her needs for now (based on all the reviews & comparisons), that's good.

Depending upon the age/mautriry of your daughter you run the risk of damaging your relationship with her if she wants an ipad one gets something else.

The Fire is an ereader that can function as a tablet too. Do not buy it if you are wanting it to use strictly as a tablet.

She will be happy with whatever I get her, but since she is 18 now and this is the last year we do the big present thing I wanted to go somewhat "big" so to speak. Plus if she doesnt like it well, im sure mamma would be happy with it.

I don't own one, but a friend does and I've used it a lot. There is not a better tablet on the market. Period.

Your daughter won't be disappointed with the iPad2.

Sounds like a one off to me. My Android device is still fully supported and a newer version has been out for around 5 months now.

Never noticed any difference between the markets and how each app looks differently depending on OS, and i've seen a crazy amount of iPhones in use from friends. Most of my friends however are now moving away from Apple to Android (mainly HTC's not sure why lol. Maybe they're running a big ad campaign i have't noticed).

There's a reason Android is now taking a bigger market share than Apple. Most people are starting to wake up to Apples stupid over pricing. That and the fact that Android isn't limited to a single manufacturer/handset.

It won't happen, but i believe Apple need to start licensing their OS out.

On topic. The screen on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is much much better than the iPad 2 imo.

The only reason I'm holding out on buying an iPad is because there should be a new model coming out in the coming months which would include a better screen, faster, better camera, .etc. But if that stuff is not as important an iPad 2 will surely be a great christmas gift.

Availability of accessories is another reason why the Ipad wouldn't be a bad choice. Any possible accessory you would want for it, someone probably makes it.

First let me stand up in support of Android here you Apple fans.

First of all the iPad2 is not the great tablet Tuck.

I got the wife a Toshiba Thrive and she quickly gave her iPad away to our daughter, I have a friend in Israel, one of the biggest Apple fanboys you'll ever meet and he sold his iPad2 the second day he got back from the UK after buying it on the release day. He wants and Android. He's picky, he didn't at the time know which one he wanted but he knew it was going to be an Android.

So let me set the record straight here all. It's all in your perspective. If you think the iPad is better then to you it's better, if you think the Android is better or don't have that much experience with it, then it is.

As far as the Android market, anyone that has paid attention knows what ground has been gained, how Apple lost ground on the phone market due to Android, which I may add is the winner in the phone market and will be in the tablet market.

Bottom line, you won't go wrong either way, but I will say the Android is a little more for the advanced admin if he wants the tool

                              Well said DB.

I'm actually waiting for Windows based tablets as i'm hoping they'll intergrate into a fully connected experience with PC's, HTPC's, NAS etc on a Windows access/control level and application compatibility.

Having full control of all home entertainment and other automation is my dream. Pretty sure it can be done now, but i bet it's expensive and unnecessarily complicated.
