I'm really liking the I5-2500K

Not only do I like gaming, but just general computer geekery as well. I was messing around over clocking it today and hit 5ghz. It was stupid easy, especially being a micro ATX mobo. I didn't mess with the voltages, just the multiplier. I can't believe how far technology has come as far as motherboards go. I remember the hurdles and hoops I had to jump through just to get a Pentium four from 3.2ghz to 3.4ghz lol.

3DMark06 is antiquated but I Still use it to compare my old systems to each other.

So whats your voltages up to at 5 ?? Be careful that doesn't creep up on you too far. I'm curious to see how long these i5 chips can hold their heavy overclocks once thermal migration kicks in (it eventually will).

Typically rule of thumb: find the Prime95 max, and then back off 25% of the increase. Also gotta worry about over-voltage.

If you find you can OC 1,000mhz, back off 250mhz for the sake of safety.

Voltages are still stock at 1.36, unless my mobo is raising it automatically. Temps are still below factory recommended. If prime finishes with out any errors after 24hrs, I'll run a few more bench marks then clock it back to 4.6

Dead is correct. DG, you are not running @ stock voltages at 5ghz, your board is automagically ramping up the voltages when needed to satisfy the chips requirements. That's why I mentioned electromigration and its eventual affect on these chips.

If you feed it enough voltage, it will OC like mad, but you just have to be careful that the rest of the components like all that juice flowing through them, especially the mainboard.

I run 1.356v @ 4.4GHz Works great. Unforuntaely I got a retarded CPU from the bin. Most guys can hit above 44x without much change in vcore.

Safe vcore for Sandy Bridge has been debated but most are saying below 1.4 for everyday use is fine (and the CPU won't be running that high unless you disable C1e like I did hehe) Earlier last year Intel was saying 1.35v fwiw.

Definitely be careful with auto vcore and multipliers above 45...
