Ill just hop in here and post a quickie to this. I believe your motherboard has whats called Intel Speedstep. if its enabled, it will allow your processor to automatically adjust itself on core clock speed. in effect self overclocking itself based on need of the processor. and then downclock itself when its not needed.
That options on but that was not the cause thou.
Its the most common cause I can say that but not this round XD
Issue was my MB down'd my multiplier in responce to over heating a long time ago.
Possibly when I started playing BFBC2.
As when i started to play it, my pc would stop dead, and either comeback to life or reboot.
As sorta proven by sorting my multi and testing the temps.
Changing the thermal paste sorted it.
Thanks for the input, your not wrong I do have that on for the reasons its designed for,
but this case it was my moldy old silver and my MB's safeguards that was the cause.
