can i under clock a video card?

my old 1650 pro video card is getting warning messages from ati control center for running to hot. Can i under clock the card to make it run cooler? The case isnt hot and airflow is decent. But the card gets hot. It doesnt have the error when i use a house fan and point it directly at the box.

I know it seems dumb... but im just looking for a cheap and easy fix before the card burns up.

the ati drivers have a simple 'over drive' in the CCC panels.

I know you can set the speeds in there to lower than spec, could give that a shot.

    edit:
I dont have ccc installed but i think there is also an auto setup where it will do tests, i recommend the long one.
it will strain your card and see what speeds will keep it at a good temp.

    All it does is
runs at stock, checks temp, adjusts speeds, waits, repeat until optimal temp.

I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

yes you can underclock your video card. pretty much any program that is used to overclock will work.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
