    Need Network guru please

After buying a new router my XP SP3 box can't see my Win7 x64 machine...(but I can see the xp box from win7)

Strangely enough Synergy+ (my over-the-network kvm setup) is working fine....

    Anyway, things I've done:

    1) WORKGROUP is set on both
    2) firewall on or off doesn't seem to make any difference
    3) Shared folders on Win7 pc are set to Everyone + read/write permissions
    4) Pinging the win7 box from winxp works fine
5)In case it matters IPv6 is disabled on my router...

It's probably some stupid simple step I missed... any ideas?

    p.s. yeah I knew I made a similar post a while back...which is here:
    http://www.cainslair.com/showthread.php?t=17686

This time I already had "everyone" set for user permissions... which is why I'm so stumped this time argh!

p.s. my router is WNDR4000 aka Netgear N750

Ryan, Ok, here's the deal. I had this problem when I started working with my first Win 7 machine in the house. Believe it or not it's due to Win 7 actually being secured to the point you XP machines can't see it.

The way they did this was to create the home group settings. You basically have to open up your windows 7 machine.

I have admin shares working both direction and user share. I use the public share on the Win7 machine to pass information to my XP machine. I'll find the information I had and post it for you.

Sorry retyping what I just fracking lost.

Here's some links that may help you. It's the registry setting that fixed me if I remember. The part that is locking out your XP machine is the homegroup stuff.

If I remember correctly I also played with disjoining all my windows 7 machines from the home group stuff. I just verified and I can still access admin shares from XP to Win 7 and Win 7 to XP. I do have the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy key in my register set to 1 on all my windows 7 machines.

I also must mention, I know I keep talking about admin shares and I don't know how much you play with this but the admin shares are only available on Win 7 Pro and up. So you won't see them in all Win 7 flavors.

Anyway here are some links that should help. I apologize for not documenting this on my pcinfo page and trying to explain this better, but I must have forgot to.

Thanks for those... before I look at all this stuff I just want to reiterate that before I installed my new router I had this working... Was there a SP that happened to correspond with me installing my new hardware that disabled the XP and Win7 sharing?

Did you IP addresses change with the new router? 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.1.100 or something?

Hmmm with synergy working (which rocks BTW) that tends to remove basic networking stuff. Which is what I would think the router change would involve. Just to be sure can you ping boh machines right? in a cmd shell do a ipconfig find the ip address of both machines and try pinging them from both sides. If that works I tend to think it's the win 7 firewall

So good. I was watching it cuz I had never seen it and I heard a prequel series was coming up so I wanted to watch it before it aired.
