For years I have been using a Sennheiser headset connected to an X-Fi Titanium HD. It has been a great setup, and I get really good positional audio. The headset has developed a short in the in-line volume control that causes me to lose sound in the left ear. Initially it was intermittent and I could get it to go away by fiddling with the volume. Now it has gotten worse, and the only way I can get sound in the left ear is to apply constant pressure to the volume wheel. I was able to tape it with scotch tape, but I don't know how long that will work. Rather than wait for it to get worse, I'm going to go ahead and get a new headset. I was thinking of getting a 5.1 or 7.1 headset. Since I have the X-Fi, I will need one with either an optical or analog connector, not USB. Do any of you guys have any experience with 5.1 headsets? Any recommendations?

I switched to USB after having years of issues. The big problem was when I tried to switch from the speakers to the headset I had a heck of a time getting the mic to work. I used to have a Medusa headset that had decent sound though, better sound quality then my current Logitech 930.

I really don't recommend the G30. Not because my G35 broke, but because it is the same product and the sound quality was really sub par. How the hell do a pair of 30 dollar KOSS headphones sound 3 times better?
I really wanted to get that Tritton headset, but the square ear cups confused me. If you do get it, make sure you let me in the know about it.

As to the fact that it is broken, you need to google all the people complaining. A product shouldn't have hundreds of people complaining about the exact same issue. What kind of moron thought of putting all the headset's pressure and weight on a 2mm plastic bar? A Logitech moron, that's who.
