Well, I have flip-flopped again. I read a bunch of stuff on the internet, and the overall consensus seems to be that true 5.1 headsets aren't worth it because the sound produced by the smaller drivers isn't as good and simulated surround is almost as good as the real thing anyway. Plus the CMSS-3D produced by my X-Fi is supposed to be among the best simulated surrounds you can get.
I am now considering these two Sennheisers:
PC 360
PC 350
My current headset is a Sennheiser, and it lasted a long time before finally crapping out on me.
I really like the PC 360 better, but it is hard to justify $211 for a headset. I would just get the PC 350 outright, but it has the inline volume control, which is what finally broke on my current headset. I think I may keep an eye on prices and see if the PC 360 drops below $200.
