Internet pages don't load at first

    Background:

I've got a WNDR4000 Netgear router (with cable modem). Everything was running smoothly until my wife's friend attempted to turn off my entire PC by turning off my battery backup (great idea....). The internet was a PITA to get back running... but I eventually got it, or so I thought.

    Problem:

If my computer is off for an extended amount of time (say overnight), and I boot up and browse to a web page the page won't load initially. I have to click the link again and it loads like normal. This never happened before the above incident.

    Solution:

Feel free to give me some suggestions... I've got zero ideas why it wouldn't work at first but then it will...

First off, I'd really be curious if iExplorer is showing up in your Task Manager after you click it the first time. Then if it is, I would be interested in what information is showing up in the Event Viewer and how much IO is going on in the back ground.

Check and see what kind of errors you have in your event viewer in the System and Application logs.

What happens if you run without the router? Is the router running stock or DD-WRT?

Did you quiz this friend to see what he/she actually did? This is quite an odd bunch of issues to have from just powering down.

          +1

I don't know anybody who would consider shutting down a friend's PC. Maybe you know extra details that you haven't shared, but I've watched too much CSI to accept this suspect's statement.

I had to go through this to get it working again... but maybe I should reset the router through routerlogin.com ?

I use Chrome browser and have deleted the cache/cookies/history and that didn't seem to help. Nothings unusual in the task mananger.

Yeah the gal was annoyed by all my lights (man tower power!) when she was going to bed and just assumed it was the power for the entire PC... it's not like I would ever turn someone's stuff off... but whatever

I would try a reset. They usually fix most random issues.

Crap, I thought you said the browser didn't launch. Did the status on the link say connecting...?

Could it be that your Pc is just taking a little bit to acquire an IP? And in the time it takes for you to launch a browser, close and reopen its acquired an IP?

Reset doesn't seem to be helping...

Here's an example of what pops up sometimes:

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
