Setting up a SSD as an OS drive.

I just got a new laptop. I removed the 750 Gb mechanical drive and replaced it with a SSD. I plan on putting the other one in the secondary slot when I can find a bracket. I have a few questions.

1. Should I run games of the SSD or the secondary drive.

2. is there a guide somewhere the would tell me how to have all music, pictures and downloads automatically go to the secondary drive. I tried that on my desktop and I end up getting two copies of each song, one on the main drive as well as one on the backup.

3. There is no bracket for this second bay, it costs $36.00, someone told me that they used a hard eraser cut to size that will hold the HDD in place. Have any of you heard of this?

1. Space will be limited on the SSD, so you won't be able to install all your games on there. You can install some games on there, and it will probably improve load times. However, you will have to watch your free space. One problem is using Steam. To my knowledge, there is no way to install some Steam games on one HDD and the rest on a different one. So, unless you only plan on having 1 or 2 of your steam games installed at a time you will need to put those on the mechanical drive.
2. In Windows 7 this is pretty easy.

Once you add a new location, you can make that your default location for the library.

I agree with Dead. this is what I did too. I only keep my OS on my SSD and all of my games still load quickly and play great.
The Library works best as a place holder allowing you to access your music, photos and videos no matter what drive they are stored on.

The laptop that I have been using for the last 4 years had a 250 Gb drive and I could have 4 or five games and about 10 movies. It was kind of a PITA. the SSD is a 256 so it's similar in size so it will be about the same thing. Thanks for the linkage.

I was able to trip down an eraser and jam it into place, we will see if it holds up.

Man... the heat out of the HDD is going to be stuck in there, cooking your internals

Wherever you have Steam installed to, your Steam games MUST reside on that drive. This really has caused a lot of issues as more and more SSD owners run into issues with this. There's even a utility named 'Steam Mover' to deal with this as a workaround.

It would be nice to have only games the rely on fast load times on the main drive. I wouldn't care so much about the single player ones loading quickly. I did install BF3 on the SSD and it ran smoothly and seemed faster but I could be other reasons.

I do love how fast windows loads tough.
