I heard about this over a year ago an thought no way, this cant happen but I guess it is. It'll be interesting to see what happens now, mother board cpu sold together.

I read about this, all I'm hoping for is that they change their minds when they see the uproar. It's happened before.

Netbust, RDRAM, BGA... three strikes and you're out? and I highly doubt FTC is going to just casually overlook this. I do like AMD and all but their chipsets are awful, I have many many dead hard drives to prove it too

If they do that then my next PC is going to have to be AMD. Not because I like them or because I want to replace my CPU often, I just can't support a move like this. Good thing my PC is future proof for the next 2 or 3 years.

What a shame, I assume there will be a few models of MBs out there but there will be no way to have the options we have now.

That's what bothers me the most. It's always nice to have options. I hate having choice taken away from me.

It also get rid of competition which is never good for the consumer.

This would be a bad move IMO and would be a nightmare for BIOS vendors and motherboard makers.

Except Inel they would run the whole show so the other ones would just have to keep up or die.

BGA makes sense. It'll revive PC gaming IMO.

How exactly would it do that?

Mainly I'm talking about the 1155 socket which is 99% better for everyone. It may not be the best thing ever (as a super techie guy it sucks but for everyone else it's great) but here's kinda why it's happening. Random unorganized thoughts below.

How many times are you going to swap your CPU? Intel is just trying to control the user experience by integrating everything into the CPU like they did with the memory controller and PCIe Controller. SATA is pretty much done so that'll eventually go on the chip as well. We don't need 100+ different motherboards for 1155, most of them are all the same and do the same thing. Eliminating "stupid" builds is a good thing.

Their CPUs are already pretty top tier so Intel doesn't need to really worry about making their chips faster or smaller but they do anyways. You're never really going to need more performance than a 3770K now and in the next 5 to 10 years. CPUs will start to matter less because all it'll do in your rig is just manage. Graphics cards and rendering engines are where development need to happen since all current GPUs get raped by 4K and rendering engines are bleh (maybe CryEngine 3 will fix this). The bulk of PC gaming as of late is like WoW/LoL and what ever else FPS games are which just sip on the CPU performance.

Cost will be down so it'll be cheaper in the future to build computers, so it'll benefit everyone. It'll become standardized so variation in builds will be there but for the average gaming experience people can be like, "Oh hey, I want a computer to game one; I'm gunna get an i7 Sabertooth Z77," and it'll work out of the box. That's how consoles really succeeded; it ran everything out of the box. You'll still be able to choose your sound card, GPUs, PSUs, RAM, and other peripherals, making custom builds still around but you just won't be able to pick every little detail. Ramble Ramble >.>

2cents, but that's just what I think. Not really a complete thought up there lol sorry if it makes no sense.

PS: Also maybe that's how AMD will make a comeback by being the enthusiast builder's choice.

                              Intel backpedaling already:

                              http://www.maximumpc.com/article/new...ed_sockets2012

Let's face it, we PC enthusiasts are in the minority here, and the 90% of PC buyers don't really care about what they buy, other than it should say 'Intel' on a sticker somewhere.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
