    Overclocking - i7 3770K

I just had it on a whim to try to OC my 3770K today. Been sick, so not much going on. Too weak to move about much - though the house needs some desperate cleaning.

But punching numbers on a caclulator and computer are not over stressful.

Went from the stock 3.5 to 4.5 ghz. Didn't bother messing with the voltages (left those at "auto") Just locked the speed at 100 and set the multi to 45. *shrugs*

Have not touched memory. I did OC the videocards a little (don't remember which). One was a little slower than the other, so I moved the slower card's speed to that of the faster's.

I don't know what you're talking about, but sounds awesome!

      IKR!

I was looking at it right quick. Seems most people are between 5.0 and 5.5 on the i7 3770K chips for OC.

I'm happy with 4.5ghz. See how it handles for a bit. Might actually bother with hitting 5.0 if I get bored another day.

      Maybe.

Nice, just make sure your temps are still in the acceptable range.

Have you done any stress testing? I can't get a stable OC over 4.2 on my 3770k. It doesn't overheat, but I get BSODs when stress testing or the stress test will crash. Tried Prime95 and Intel Burn In Test. My board has an easy OC feature that OCed mine to 4.2 and it seems stable there.

No stress test yet, but I have been playing BF4 on it for ~3 hours with no issue.

Should be able to push past that. I've got my 3570k at around 4.4 right now. Doing it with a Mobo overclock and not a software version right? Are you BSoD'ing when running it stock ?

I should note I did this through the BIOS, not through some software junk.

That is the ONLY way to do it. Doing it from within Windows is a bad idea. Sounds like you did it like I did - found out what is a lower OC on your particular chip and then set and forget it. Leaving it at stock voltages also keeps the temps only a smidgen above where they should be on a default chip as well. Enjoy the easy boost in overall system performance !

I used to push my chips back in the day to the absolute max. I was one of the goons that had a Q6600 pushing 4ghz. I was also spending a lot more time doing it.

I am confident with my system stability, coolness of ambient temp, cooling setup, and a bit of hardware modification (shaving heatsink for better cooling, etc), I could probably push past 5ghz no problem. But why? A 1ghz overclock is a STOUT overclock. The performance boost is well worth it, risks are minimal, and frankly, most of the time it's running on the lower multiplier anyways when I am doing basic computing because basic computing doesn't need a stout processor. Even though I have a video playing, 11 tabs of chrome, spread sheets, internet chats going, there's no stress on this system here.

But again, the extra 500-700mhz (I doubt I could get beyond 5.2) isn't worth the HOURS I would spend finding it.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
