    OCZ are dust.

And Toshiba look to be buying the remains.

Quite sad really, but their early SSD years pretty much destroyed their rep.

Highly doubtful. Their SSD's are some of the biggest sellers to date.

Just because you had terrible luck with them, they should fall?

Pretty much a normal thing, I wasn't a huge fan of them anyways. Didn't have any particular issues with them, still have some ram running on one of my machines.

Same. Their RAM was great, then they all but stopped producing it.

I've also heard that there was a time between 2011/12 where for 4 months OCZ had no product stock whatsoever.

I had OCZ ram, and I was upset when I couldn't find some of their ram for my last two builds. The ram I ran of OCZ, allowed me to get a max overclock and still left headroom in the ram - which very few sticks of ram were able to do.

That said, my first SSD was an OCZ, and it failed within a week. Fortunately, I was able to return it and get a different product. I am using either a Seagate or Samsung, I don't remember. But it's been a wonderful drive.

Didn't OCZ dabble in power supplies for a little while too?

I loved OCZ for their ram. Gold-plated heatsinks were nice.

And it was them very SSD's that killed their business.

Yep they did some very good affordable PSU's.

I still have some of that in my HTPC.

They bought up PC Power & Cooling, which many years ago made one of the best PSUs you could lay your hands upon. Admittedly, by having OCZ buy them up, PC P&C were never as good as they were (OCZ bought subpar components/caps to reduce the price), but I'm curious what Toshiba does with that IP.

I never used an OCZ SSD ... always wanted to get in on one of their super cheap deals, but ONLY on a firmware updated SSD. Many of their SSDs like the Vertex3 were just fine, suffering no higher failure rates than the norm once the firmware was updated.

Actually, the price was $50m, but there was a $15m mail-in rebate

Going to pick up a Vertex 4 128gb SSD tonight via Craigs. Seller wanted $60, but I offered $45. Claims it was used for 6 months in a laptop, but with the 1.51 firmware on these drives, they run very well.
Obviously, no warranty anymore, but for that price I am going to roll the dice. The Vertex 4s were probably the most reliable SSD that OCZ made, for what it's worth. My plans were to swap out a slower Kingston V300 128gb SSD for this one (its darn near double the speeds in benchmarks) but the more I think about it, the more I think its wasted effort to trade one SSD for another, which I had posted in Cain's SSD thread - any SSD is a huge increase over a traditional HDD.

All of my PCs already have SSDs, so I guess it's time to build another rig, or come up with some valid reason to build one at least.
