    Filling out PDF forms

I have a bunch of government forms to fill out, They are just PDFs I printed off the internet. The last time I had to fill out a bunch of these forms was eighteen years ago and I used a typewriter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typewriter). So I was wondering if there is a free app that will allow me to fill in the information before I print them.

    Maybe something like this?

It's actually quite shocking as to how much money is demanded for apps that edit PDF files.

Check the form files. Most Minnesota government forms have fields that allow text entry before printing. However, these files don't allow me to save my information. It's lost when the file closes.

Otherwise, I have a typewriter I could loan you.

Thanks, I'll pass on the typewriter. These particular files don't seem to let me interact.

Download the PDF file and convert it to a Microsoft Word file. File out the Word file on your computer and then save it as a PDF File. You can then attach the file to an email and send the completed PDF to any recipient.

I assume I could do this with open office too, I'll give it a try.

If you have ms office use the printer called document image writer
It makes a bw tif of the document printed.
Then Import into word, click the image.
Make the image "behind text" in the position selection.

I dunno of any openoffice / free alternative method to do that thou

                One way to do it.
If you need to print to pdf try cutepdf writer.

I open it in Acrobat and save as a Word document. I do not know if open office has a PDF Viewer that will save to Word. Then you can type the text into the fields using Word. Word will then allow you to save the document as a PDF. You can then print it, fax it or email it. I just did this for my son yesterday so he could get paid by the local paper. According to wiki you can do this with Open Office.

Important detail: Apache mentioned using Adobe Acrobat (purchased editor), not Adobe Reader (free).

The company that Juneau mentioned also provides an on-line PDF to Word convertor,

Any program that will allow you to save a PDF to Word will work.
You can use the free PDF to Word Online for example.
                          http://www.pdfonline.com/pdf-to-word-converter/
You can download a program to use. Do not use one that asks for personal or financial information.
