In need of a new router, suggestions?

My current set-up is a gateway 2.4Ghz supporting 2 clients on a single channel. Both clients are capable of running on a N900 router (dual band 2.4 and 5Ghz). The gateway is causing issues with internal network "lag" (packet loss) when playing twitch games like BF4, TF2, Hawken, etc... I've been out of the game for awhile, so I was wondering what routers the collective mind here at the lair would suggest?

    Additional info:
Wired cloud storage is currently in use for household back-ups (WD Mycloud 2TB drive)
DCMA for streaming HD shows from one of the clients in the household directly to the TV (software is already in place and this is not utalized at the same time as gaming)
There is also a tablet and a phone that ocasionally use the wireless network, though they are limited to the 2.4Ghz range.
There are no other 5Ghz networks within range of my household, all 5Ghz channels are completely open with little to no real noise that may cause issues.

ASUS routers get a big thumbs up from me. I picked up the RT-N66U a year or so ago and it has worked flawlessly. I've never once had to reset it in this time.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
