if you have not had the readiness tool run yet id use it first
      http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...readiness-tool
      should point any issues out

should be all good then, the download will upgrade just the same way as via windows update
          just a few extra screens

update isn't automatic. I will try the manual download tonight once I get all the important things on a flash drive.

Works great here but it is a new machine preinstalled though I still had my concerns.

You reckon they are watching me then Cobalt. Now where's that thong?

ok finally got back to being able to try it.
then got "we couldn't update the system reserved partition"

reading some posts on the web they say to change the partition using various drivers you can download.
I am running a samsung SSD 840 EVO 250 GB and a Hitachi HD 1 TB.

                Which ones do I change?

                  I haven't done this, so...

I expect you'll see a small partition on your boot drive (SSD). That is the system reserved partition. Before you can expand it, you'll need to shrink your much larger partition on the SSD. The change probably doesn't need to be much. I'd guess 100 MB.

I've heard this tool works well: http://www.minitool.com/partition-ma...zard-home.html

I'm assuming the SSD is your boot drive. I've only seen a system reserved partition on the boot drive, and normal partitions don't span across multiple drives. Unless I'm missing something, the HD shouldn't be involved at all.

You will not have to do anything to your HD Drive, if it is not a boot drive.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
