    Interesting Offsite Backup Program

If you have friends or family that you trust:

Windows only: Want a place to stash your files but lack a home server or need more than Mozy's free 2 GB? Zoogmo, a peer-to-peer file backup program, lets you utilize your buddies (the ones with huge hard drives, anyways) for reciprocal backup. After you both install the client software, you can search each other out and trade files back and forth in an interface familiar to anybody who's done some file-sharing. Each file, however, can only be 50 MB during Zoogmo's beta period, so don't expect to trade many video files (or large databases). Zoogmo is a free download for Windows systems only, requires a free sign-up to use.

If you backup sensitive or personal information (i.e., a quicken file of all of one's finances) make sure you zip those files, encrypt them, than transmit.

Since I backup roughly 450GB each nite across my home computing empire (i.e., 7 PC/servers with a total of 6TB but 450GB is the critical stuff), I have two external 500GB disks and rotate them between home and the bank where I have a safety deposit box (i.e., in case of fire, flood, etc).

No matter how you do it, having a backup outside your home is very important in case of the unexpected.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
