My friend tried it out. He said that unless you really want a dock program along those lines, the functionality isn't so hot. He told me he was still accessing his Start Menu quite a bit and that he had trouble getting the icons from his task bar to import and issues with them updating properly. So not only do you run the dock, you end up using your Start Menu and task bar just about the same as you used to.
Personally I'd rather use a program along the lines of Launchy ( http://www.launchy.net ) to quick launch programs and perform various functions and rely on my Start Menu and task bar when I need them.
