    Motherboard/Ram Question?

Hey I have bought two 1GB Corsair Dominator Ram Chips And have the Motherboard Asus M3A32 MVP Deluxe. Says these memory chips are only supported by an AM2+ processor. The Ram is PC2 8500 1066mhz. I have a AMD 6400+ Dual core processor. Would this processor support this memory? I read alot about the Motherboard and it says it supports the Ram. I'm building new computer any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx,

I'm 99.9% sure that you will be ok using that RAM.

          WHASSUPPP Psycho !!!!???

Everyone, Psycho is a friend of mine and lives in the same city. He also will probably ... possibly be playing on WOW when he gets tired of Joint Ops and Crysis. LOL.

I have helped him out on his computer, but this memory is kinda freaky. I think he said this is Overclocked memory and the motherboard says it can handle this exact memory if you have an AM2 + processor and the memory is 1066mhz (overclocked memory). He doesn't have an AM2 processor and from what I've read the motherboard will handle this EXACT memory EXCEPT the memory and processor combo has to be the AMD6400 Dual Core and the memory PC2 8500, but only 800mhz (not overclocked memory). The manual says it will handle DDR PC2 8500 but it only shows 800mhz. Nowhere in the manual does it show that it will handle 1066mhz memory, but shows this particular pc2 8500. Weird.

On the mobo mfg website it shows the 1066mhz memory will run but the only example they have is showing the AM2+ processor, specifically.

They have shown that the PC2 8500 memory, if overclocked, requires 2 volts @ 1066mhz, and the NON overclocked memory PC2 8500 requires 1.5 volts @ 800 mhz.

Either way, I didn't find anywhere where it said that the PC2 8500 memory @ 1066 mhz will run with the AMD 6400+... only the AM2+ processor.

I only found that the AMD 6400+ will run in this motherboard with the 800mhz memory.

I found that the AM2+ processor will run compatibly with the 1066mhz overclocked memory.

Nowhere did I find that you could criss-cross the two, and the manual doesn't show it running ANY 1066mhz memory.

This is why I told him to get in here and ask some questions that some of you may be able to answer. Some of you may even have this exact motherboard. Not sure...

Any help you could offer him would be greatly appreciated.

By the way... Psycho has a 42 inch plasma computer monitor.

That is kinda confusing come to think of it. Is there any reason as to why he wants such high bandwidth RAM? It doesn't really give any noticeable boosts.

It should be no problems to manually set the RAM timings from the BIOS, but you will probably have to use another set of RAM to change the timings, then save and shut down the PC. Pop out the temporary sticks and put in the good ones, then fire it up.

Sounds way confusing, so forgive me if I missed the obvious in the first post.

That's what I told him, but he wanted to get the best of the best... and he did for this particular outfit... but I don't know. The last I checked we couldn't get the machine to boot and he left here with it. The motherboard didn't have a board speaker so he borrowed one from me and got on the phone with tech support. They shipped him a new motherboard because I couldn't get it to boot... beep... show nothing on the screen. They have shipped him a new board, and this post is the first I've heard from him since. They couldn't get any error beeps out of the new board .. hence the reason they shipped him a new one.

By the way, here is the motherboard he gots.

This is one of the best motherboard spec I have seen just short of a server board.
It has FOUR Pcie slots and can run FOUR video cards at the same time.....

He just got the replacement mobo in today. I will be building this monster this time. He took a stab at it on the first try and brougnt it to me after he couldn't get it going.
Other parts going in this beast:

HeatSink(I personally would have gone liquid-cooled and recommended it but he already had this hood ornament ordered.)
                  2x VisionTek Radeon HD 3870 512 GDDR4 x16 PCIE
Amd Athlon Black Edition 64 X2 6400+ Dual Core Processor
BadAzz Fatal1ty X-FI Platinum Champion series(The finest Sound Card on the market IMO)
Corsair Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 SDRAM Desktop Memory (The price dropped $60 dollars a couple days after he purchased it ).
                  Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 ATX12V
APEVIA Telstar Jr. Case (Thank god it isn't an Apevia power supply but it is a nice case.)

I'd send that PSU back if you can. #1 it isn't great, and #2, who needs 1000W?

reading some reviews on the PSU:

1)it's numbers are very good on the test bench.

                        2)it's loud.

                        3)if you don't draw at least 200w constant then it's a waste.

LoL. Hopefully he'll read this and change his mind about that.

Personally, I don't see spending that much on a PSU when you can get a perfectly good 650w for less than a hundred bucks that will probably last just as long. On the other hand, you gotta buy one that will run the dual video cards, and he may spring for Quad video cards and then you will want something that is going to push it.

On a side note, in another post, my buddy had that Apevia 400w psu and it died. We replaced it with this particular Antec PSU 1000W and he didn't spend near that much for it. I think he got this Antec for $119.00. I didn't notice any noise at all, and I am a big noise freak and can't stand it. I am not sure if this is the exact same model, but it surely didn't cost anything near 200$.

Another Note about PSUs. My other friend that I built a machine for has 2x Nvidia Geforce 9750 video cards in his machine... one of which blew a circuit the same month the warranty went out. I plugged his GOOD video card into my PC which has a 300w power supply. I connected the power cables and everything to the video card and my machine would not even boot to the bios with this video hog in my machine. His machine had the Apevia 400 watt PSU and I told him that 400w would be enough. That PSU died, but running with DUAL pcie video cards his machine ran like a slug and MY machine with vista and ATI x1300 video outperformed his monster pc on my benchmark tests. After we plugged in this new PSU, it runs Three to Four times as good as mine does on the benchmark tests, and it only has a single video card in it. The PSU juice made a hella difference.
