Review of the Intel 8500 CPU

    http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/intel_e8500/

Good read on the chip, altho he was using an engineering sample. Here's a quick read on what the chip can do:

Where can I begin about the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500? This processor is absolutely amazing. At stock speeds it blasts on the other Dual Core chips and puts up a noble fight with the Quad Core Q6600. Overclocked, this thing is a beast. I mean just look at the scores, it smokes the competition without even acknowledging that they were there.
On the overclocking this has to be by far the easiest chip to overclock especially when paired up with Intel's X38 chipset. All of the tests were on a stock Intel heatsink and never got above 70 degrees Celsius

Good review. But why would you use the stock heatsink. I just don't see the point.

Point is to use it as a reference point. Given that this would be the worst you could assume buying a retail chip, your odds of obtaining a higher OC or a lower temp to boot are substantially good.

I would have tossed a mid range quality HSF at it (Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 7 at least) but this guy probably reviews with what he has handy, and in some cases that's no more than what the company sends you.

He makes a point in mentioning that an engineering sample can be better or worse than a retail chip, as you aren't sure how well Intel is doing with that particular batch.

True about the reference point. But anybody who knows even small amounts about overclocking will ditch the stock heatsink while they're placing their order.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
