    It died..

It was working and then all of a sudden it froze. It was frozen until the battery ran out and then I plug it in to charge it and that is what happens.

My wife dropped her mini. The micro drive was toast. I bought a 4 GB flash and put it into the mini and was able to reinitialize the iPod. Listen closely do you hear the HD doing the click of death?

I dont know if it is doing it now, but before it ran out of batteries, when it was frozen all day, it was making a clicking noise the entire time.

The dreaded click of death. The drive has died. You could buy another micro drive and put it in or buy a compact flash card and go solid state. Google around. There's instructions online on how to take apart all types of iPods. It's a fairly striaght forward procedure. Usually like

        Take apart iPod
        Unplug dead storage device
        Plug in new storage device.
        Put iPod together
        Hook up to iTunes
        Reinitialize
        Resync

Of course if it's under warranty send it in...

Yea Mapes has it laid out for you right there...I too had an ipod that was dropped by my wife and had to replace the dead drive. It is only a matter of getting the new hardware and from there it is pretty simple. You can have it up and running in an hour or so.

Does apple sell new hard drives or would I have to go through someone else?

Apple doesn't do anything that would allow you to purchase and replace parts on your own.

What!!!??? just buy a micro drive.... Compact flash and micro drives use the same interface. No need to buy a drive from that shadowey character down the block ... Oh what he's selling drungs? Who'd a thunk it.

Just search on microdrive in google....

Yea your totally right Mapes...When I was responding last night I was way over tired and couldnt make the right choice of words...sorry It's not black market in anyway, more aftermarket (i think this is the word lol). Just a mall you can go after ur warranty is up or you need to upgrade/ get newe parts for phones, ipods, cameras etc

                          Well I'll be darned.

I have two ipods ...one is an 80 gig and one is a 60. The 60 gig ipod doesn't show anything on the screen and when you charge it up and try to turn it on, all you hear is a clicking noise when you press the play/forward/reverse/stop buttons. Nothing ever shows on the screen, nor does it even light up. You think this may be the drive or maybe is it the screen too?

Hard to say. If you have some compact flash lying around you could try to swap it and then try to reinitialize it just to see it it's the drive. Usually you still get the frowny iPod icon with a bad drive. To me it sounds like the battery is bad or other power probems. do you get the charging ICON on the LCD?

My headphone jack got borked on my ipod. Its like it was stretched or something so the connection wouldn't always be there. I would have to move the jack on my headphones for it to make some contact with something inside to enable me to hear some sound.

I should really look into fixing that...

Oh, and when I was a kid, I always though the black market was some dark van that drove around with stolen VCRs in it. So everytime I would see a dark van with tinted windows, I would think its the black market.
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
