    Internet disconnects

I have a new system. Phenom 9500 running Vista Ultimate. It's been running fine up until yesterday. The internet drops periodically. I turned off power saving, I unchecked QoS Packet, Internet Potocol 6 and both link layers as per advice I found online. It's still droping connection. Other than deep 6ing Vista, what to do. Why would a system change like that? I havn't loaded any new software or messed with any settings.

I know you guys hate Vista but what the hell?

As in your internet doesn't connect to any web sites?

Are you getting a valid IP address?

    I'd blame your ISP.....

We had the same thing with our ISP, Charter....

Have you tried resetting your modem and/or router?

Are you sure it's computer related? I'd try plugging the computer directly in to the modem if you use a router if possible. See if it continues to happen. You could have multiple computers already through your router and still have issues with the one. If it continues to happen and you still have no issues with other computers, are you using wireless or a wired connection? If wireless, do any other computers sit near where that one does and do they have any issues? If wired, how far are you going with your wired connection? What type of hardware are we looking at for the wireless/wired card in the PC and for the router/modem?

        Power down everything
        Unplug your modem
        Unplug your router
Unplug the WAN connection to the modem.
Unplug the connection to your net card.

        Wait at least 15 seconds.
        Power up your modem first.
Plug the WAN connection in next.
        Power up your computer.
Plug the connection to your netcard again.

9 of 10 times it helps me identify a config problem versus an ISP problem.

first off. how old is the router?

Oddly enough, i had he SAME issues when i first got vista. i tracked my problem down to my router, but then again, i new it was going out anyways. vista is ALOT more sensitive IMO than XP was to packets not arriving as expected.

i'd follow everyone else's advice, and check alot of other things first. my solution was just to get a new router. since then, everything worked flawlessly for me. i claim to know nothing about vista, but, the router was the last thing i checked after pulling my hair out. the other pc's in the house didn't have the problem, but only the vista pc did. from the looks of it, it was randomly having "micro-resets", and vista didn't like it.
