    Not really "Compuer" trouble...

Might be the wrong place to ask, but...

Tails and I went to visit family last weekend and brought the Wii down. While we were there, it got knocked off the stand and took a good fall. The power cut off when it fell, so we took a look at it to make sure nothing seemed damaged. The power came back on fine, and it ran well for quite a while, so I didn't think it took any damage from the fall. But, it seems to completely crash after about 1-2 hours of play now.

The red power indicator doesn't even light up when it cuts off. After crashing, the power indicator goes away (no red, yellow or green lights show up) and the power cable has to be removed and plugged in again to get the red indicator to show back up. After the power is removed and inserted, it'll run fine again for another about an hour or so and then cut off.

I was curious if this was due to a faulty power cord or something along these lines, if the fall caused some internal damage. Unfortunately, I think it's the second one, but I wanted to get some opinions before sending it off to Nintendo and they give it back 3 weeks later and say there was nothing wrong with it.

We we're going to try to get our hands on another power cord, but I don't know any close to us that owns one, much less someone that would let us borrow or swap them out for a bit.

Will you void the warranty if you open it? If you can open it with out doing so then I would pop that case open and re seat everything. It's possible something got jarred loose like a heat sink.

Eh, I'm sure it probably will.

I just really don't want to send it off for about 3 weeks only to get it back to hear "There wasn't anything wrong with it." If it's something we can easily fix here, I'd rather do that. So, we may just end up doing popping it open. I'll have to poke around for some tutorials about it... It shouldn't be too hard, but I know the PS2 had some odd stuff to look out for when you popped it open, and the last thing I'd like to have is a dead Wii and no warranty.

      Thanks for the tip, mapes.
