Hi Sub Zero, help us help you. I have had many mic issues lately and I have figured them out so I have a few questions.
1. What OS are you running?
2. What sound card do you have?
3. Does it work in some applications and not others?

i am going to take a wild stab here and guess you have vista. vista is very unfriendly with mics. for instance i can get my wide area mic to work but not the port somehow it decides all on its own which port to use. are you using vista? i can detail the fix for it if you do.

Thanks Rand, Mapes and Nevus for your troubles
I had an issue back when I was using realtek on board sound. It had to do with the jack not being recognized. There was an obcures setting that I was able find with the help of Slug (I haven't seen him around lately though). Are you able to get the mic to test in BF2? I also think there is a mic setup procedure in one of the menus.

Well, lemme see Duke...it's related to the fact that your darn sig's are almost the same and you use the same avatar....
Far as the mic goes, I'd assume it's either a setting in the sound panel or somewhere in the Sounds and Audio Devices section of the Control Panel. Either that or an issue with the mic itself. Any chance you can try a different mic with it and see if the problem is duplicated?

ROFL. should have guessed. the AC'97 drivers are junk, especially the ones bundled with the mobo. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST ONES. 90% of them won't work with BF2, as pigworthy & myself found a while ago. updating the drivers should fix the problem. once the drivers are updated, make SURE to run the bf2voipsetup.exe program that is buried in the installation folder inside c:\program files\electronic arts\battlefield 2\ . hope this helps. if not, let me know, and we can delve in deeper. but its about 99% that the drivers are faulty. Realtek realized the issue a while back, but since the disc for mobos are all preburned, they never update the ones shipped with the mobos. they use the release drivers first done when they bought the chips from realtek. BF2142 found a way to circumnavigate the issue with some of the driver versions, but since bf2 is older, its wasn't ever fixed at all there.

If you live NEAR a wal-mart supercenter that has more than mine does.. such as Video cards... then you'll likely find a Headset with a boom mic made by Logitech. It is an awesome set and is completely USB and is extremely nice for Vista. In fact it is the best set I've seen for the 38.00 price tag. You just plug it in and let it auto detect, and you'll then open your game and be ready to go. The only thing is, you don't want to plug it in or unplug it WHILE the game is already open because if you open the game first, it won't work. I bought mine for around 39.00 and a guy offered me 60 for them so I took him up on it, but my wally world doesn't carry them so I gotta go outta town to get another one like it.
OH, and you will not have to use any of those crappy AC97 audio drivers.

I found the set I bought and sold for 20.00 more than I paid for it. Here is the link:
