Personally as far as USB goes, I like the fact that I can pipe sound out through my speakers and use the mic on the headset. Or depending on the program, get sound and voice through the headset and listen to music on my speakers.

I know what you mean. When I owned a few gameservers, I usually had 2 pc's sitting side by side and I would use a headset like the one I mentioned but I'd have Teamspeak running on the separate computer and gaming on the other. For some reason when I switched from Vent to Teamspeak, TS would lock up my gaming rig when I played a game so the second computer came in handy for TS only. Anyway, I fell in love with the USB headset due to the fact that the sound quality was as good as having a regular headset plugged into an expensive sound card. As soon as I became aware of how good it was, I then removed my XFI sound card and went solo USB and used my on board sound for listening to music, or an entirely different pc with the XFI card. I could easily hear someone sneaking around half way across the map, just as I could when I started using the XFI sound card, but at a fraction of the cost. That is the reason why I highly recommend the usb setup. If you want to fork over the money, you can EASILY find a 5 in 1 surround sound with noise cancelling headset that will exceed any desire to improve gameplay.

Most novice gamers don't know it but their gameplay will increase dramatically (in most cases) just from a simple audio upgrade. The ability to hear someone sneaking up on you is a plus. For instance, even with the silent perk on COD4, I could still hear the person running or walking.

I wish I had been a member of CLR when I ran my gameservers. I would have gladly merged my servers with CLR if the opportunity ever came about.

You just plug it in and let it auto detect, and you'll then open your game and be ready to go. The only thing is, you don't want to plug it in or unplug it WHILE the game is already open because if you open the game first, it won't work. I bought mine for around 39.00 and a guy offered me 60 for them so I took him up on it, but my wally world doesn't carry them so I gotta go outta town to get another one like it.

OH, and you will not have to use any of those crappy AC97 audio drivers.
        +10000. AC'97 is horrid.

for the slight extra cost in CPU overhead, i recommend USB mics as well. via windows, they fool ANY game into thinking the hardware is inside the pc, doesn't need special drivers, and works flawlessly.

Yeah but if you ever actually compared the two...maybe you have... I would just about guarantee you that you would notice an exceptional difference.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
