I don't know anything about Samsung cameras.
I have a Nikon (not the one you listed, but a somewhat higher model) and the camera runs great. Nikon has always been known for quality camera products.

Canons are always great too. If you can find an SD1000 on sale to meet your price range, its an awesome camera. I know its higher price range, but like I said, if you can find one on sale somewhere. Bestbuy and such sometimes have some decent camera sales, so if you aren't in a hurry, it would be worth the wait.

my original goal was under $100, but there was nothing reasonable there, so it has been upped to $125~.
I also dont see similar camera models at bestbuy, they seem to change up the model numbers? i cant even find an s85 at BB !

One of my favorite camera review sites.
You can go to their buying guide and put in some various criteria.
I find their reviews pretty good and their info is trustworthy. A co-worker of mine who is heavily into digital photo sent me the link.

        http://www.dpreview.com/

Keep in mind that your price range is somewhat low. So you may want to look for older cameras that have less megapixels, around 5-6 instead of the more common 7-8 of today’s cameras. With 5-6, you are fine to print standard pictures. 7-8 MP is just something that they made for people to go “ohhh… a camera with more MP, I MUST have it”
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.

Remember, it's not just the Megapixels that you have to pay attention to. It's also the lens, the post-processing of the raw photo, and how good the auto-focus is. The better brands like Nikon, Canon, Minolta and Fuji have some of the better components beyond just high Megapixels. Not sure if Samsung could be lumped into that group yet, but check the reviews out to see how it stacks versus the others. Never buy a Kodak or any of the off brands (I personally dislike Sony's as well, though some seem to like them).

          Also, ++ dpreview.com

          Another decent review site is
          http://www.steves-digicams.com/
It's not presented as professionally as dpreview, but he's got a lot of reviews, and his photos help make it easier to differentiate between different cameras.

I have the Canon 30D but, I use it for photography for my website. I have always been partial to SLR and really love the digital SLRs.

Yes, it's higher than $125, but it's powerful, easy to use, and produces great good looking pics for the money. Time to go mow a lawn or two

Mowing lawns, boy does that bring back the memories. At 12 I was mowing 14 yards a week. That did not include my father's lawn, for which I did not get paid. And back then I got $2.00 to $3.00 a yard.

I've seen many a 4mp camera beating 8+mp cameras on quality. Look for something that has both optical and digital zoom. Digital only can really destroy the clarity of an image.

Definately like CarbonFire said you have to watch for other the high MP.
Since I haven't used Samsung cameras, I will say this, if Samsung puts into the camera what they put into their TV I would recommend it to anyone, but to add to it. Ensure you get good optical zoom (I recommend no less than 10x) and image stabilization(Great feature).
To add to what juneau was saying, which is an excellent point juneau, a 8 MP camera with a high compression on the image can have a worse picture than a 4MP camera from a reputible company. I don't think Samsung would let this happen, but you never know. To answer before you ask, how do you tell, I don't know the right answer for that other than go to a store and try them out.
Personally, I've had Kodak digital cameras for years and I've learned a lot from them. My current one has 10x zoom and I wouldn't trade that for anything. It's like having a telescope on your camera
Good luck on the hunt and remember there really is not correct answer for all it's what you like and are happy with. Remember to go try it first and if you can't look at the reviews.
