I just read that review and I wondered if it was the same one that you bought. So I came on here to see if it was the same one you bought. I'm looking into buying a cheaper laptop every two years instead of a top of the line one every three. I was going to PM you but now I guess I'll just ask a few questions.

Have you had to use the support at all?

Is there any accidental damage coverage?

    Have you loaded Crysis?

      1. no. i will probably NEVER call them back. chances are i am on a blacklist anyway.

      2. No, not from Gateway. however, you CAN buy both the standard best buy warrenty as well as an accidental destruction warrenty from them. cost is pretty hefty though. i tink 3 years for the standard was 159, and 299 for 2 years of accidental. i ignored both. cause i am cheap.

      3. no. don't own it. i have WoW, BF2, COD4, and Oblivion on it. all are pretty smooth at high settings. proc is the weakest link @ 1.66Ghz, but a T9300 can be had for cheap enough, and since its a socket P, it will be handy for a while. the new model is coming out with a T5550, which runs at 1.83. still, T9300 FTW. i am working on getting mine.

Thanks for the info Darth. I looked at the rest of the P line and they look sweet. For me I need the accidental dammage and theft protecton and gateway has it. I also notice that they seem to run a 1GB stick and a 2Gb stick for the RAM. Do you loose Dual channel capability and does this matter?

Either way theses thing look sweet . I drive through NH on my home every week so I'm going to try to find a BB that I could got to that and sneek a peek. NH also has no sales tax.

I had the same question when I read that .... I still say its not possible, but Darth confirmed that it show up as dual channel. Somebody must have been hacking away at the chipset to make that supposedly work properly.

HP has been doing some hacking to get the ATI Crossfire cards to run in SLI on an Nforce board on their older Blackbird series rigs, so anything is possible.

The bios "says" its running in dual channel mode. but, i'll tell you that 3GB in vista on that machine runs smoother than the 2gb in my desktop. and the desktop has a better CPU. whether or not the bios is hacked by gateway(btw, Dell says they have achieved the same thing on their Inspiron 1720 laptops, which i have yet to believe, considering the nature of dual channel memory) 3gb appears to be the sweet spot for 32bit vista so far as i have found.

Now, the memory latency problem could be hid, and it might be running truly in single channel mode by the lower FSB bus speed & clock frequency of the chip. the mobo chipset support 800+ FSB but the included T5450 runs at 667. the board will take a T9300, and folks have done it with little or no hassles.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
