1, Good choice. Down with Vista!
      2. Can't say i've ever heard of Xion. Could be good or bad. Leaning to bad.
      3. Good make, but what board exactly?
      4. Enough space, but what make/model?
      5. Bad, go Intel, go dual core.
      6. Not needed unless you go Vista.
      7. Pretty decent but still a long way away from the amazing 8800GT that can be had for a little more.

Post up a price range and we'll spec you up. If this is a homebuild you missed quite a few important things. RAM and PSU for a start.

Geez, you guys never gave him a chance to quote a price !! If he comes back and says it was $500, you'd all say 'JUMP ON DAT NOW' !!!

        1) Dealers choice ... enjoy
        2) Xion is equivalent to Hyper .. not a recognizable name but they are a good choice on a budget.
        3) Thumbs up
        4) See above
        5) Quid Pentom,... lets try a Quad Phenom. Depends on its revision. The TLB bug will undoubtedly be present, but if the Abit BIOS allows you to turn off the TLB feature, you'll gain 20% performance back. the 9500 rev chips in the channel are the older stock that they are trying to clear out, so its a buyers market on them right now.
Read up on the TLB errata bug before proceeding.
        6) You'll only see 3gb available using XP or even Vista 32bit.
        7) A GT OC would be a good bit better, but it is what it is. I'd say this rig should cost you around $1200.

Here's a mock up of what your new PC could look like (I certainly wouldn't mind a PC like this )

(note no case or discreet sound card in this build and only 2 Gb ... since you're using XP)

          https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...stTitle=Todd98
          • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
          • GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L P35 ATX Motherboard - Retail
          • EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB
          • Patriot Viper 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
          • CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply - Retail
          • Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
          • Microsoft Windows XP Professional With SP2C - OEM

          $1,014.93

You could shave off a bit by going with the cheaper graphics card or going with slower RAM or Processor, but this is going to give you great bang for your buck IMO

Roll back that statement to as far back as 1999 and I was hearing the same thing.

            AMD isnt going anywhere.

            BUT

With Intel you have more mobo choices

I 2nd that except watch the RAM dimms, with those tall heat spreaders, they may not fit into some motherboards along with a larger CPU cooler, like the Arctic freezer or Tuniq tower etc

Yeah AMD is still a great processor maker, they've just fallen behind in recent years. I'd love to go back to them, as every one of my self-built systems prior to my current C2D PC has been an AMD build, all the way back to the original giant killer K7.

Unfortunately for AMD, Intel is churning out some seriously kick-arse chips as of late. And I'm sure that TLB errata issue didn't help things either (I know it has since been fixed, but damage already done I'm afraid )
