    nothin but problems

well both my laptop and desktop are having problems

first the laptop.. it connects to my wireless internet. says it has connection to it (54mps) but will not access the web. or anything internet accessed... ive tried playing with my network connections but i cant get anything to work.

now the desktop.. ohhh boy.. well it was working fine until i downloaded a virus off of limewire.. i usually never download stuff i know could be corrupted but i really wanted this program. welp mistake.. got the first virus. then it messed with my pc and by the end of the week i had 5 different viruses caz it was messing with stuff (this is after having the computer for a year with no viruses till this) took me another week to find the information to delete it manually because my avg free edition could not get rid of it. well went to double check the virus name did a check and its gone now.. when i scan for viruses magically nothings showin now.
well since the virus my computers been running crappy and i keep getting this pop up everytime i access my firefox. sometimes freezing my firefox sometime not. the biggest problem is my cpu usage has skyrocketed.. my pc use to run about 1to5 percent. now its never lower than 50 percent.
the virus was a js.trojan downloader something....

Try Trend micros house call. It's a free java AV that runs through a web browser.

As for your laptop go to start/run type cmd and click ok. In the DOS box that appears type ipconfig /all and paste the output here.

What are your wifi settings. If you have the wrong WEP passphrase or wrong WPA preshared key your wifi card will say it's connected but nothing will happen. This is most likely your problem.

    House Call is available here

Sounds like you got some ad ware possibly in there. Might want to run Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy as well. Make sure you run all of this in Safe Mode though.

Make sure you run your spyware checks in safe mode. And always turn off system restore. This is also a good practice for Anti Virus apps too.

Removing some of those add-on type malware programs can corrupt your tcp-ip stack and your winsock. You will possibly have to run TCP or Winsock fix to get your browser to cooperate again.

            Limewire ....

Agreed with Mike .. download WinsockFix and run that. Then make sure when you DO get online that you download and burn a copy of Ultimate Boot CD. Its a 'live' CD, meaning you boot your PC and run the entire OS from the optical drive !! It doesn't install anything on your hard drive, but it comes packed with all kinds of freebies such as Adaware, Spybot, AVG, Antivir and other great goodies that can clean your PC.
Since you aren't 'officially' logged into your hosed Windows box, it can do a much better job than even a safe mode scan on that same PC. Add in the fact that any bugs on the hard drive can't infect the boot CD (its already burned and running, no bugs can infect it).

Ditch Limewire unless you want this to happen again ..... and again ... and again .... and ....

i ran the winsockfix and its still unable to connect to the internet. i have a repair doctor on my laptop that i just found and it says the problem is with my ip address. when i click the network repair the ip address is also the problem when it tries for that.. im guessing the problem is with my ip not refreshing properly. any suggestions?

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
