If I needed a new card right now, and I had extra cash burning a hole in my pocket, that's probably exactly the card I'd be shooting for.

Heck, I paid almost that much for my 8800GTS 320mb just over a year ago. Oh how technology changes

Cain, I have 2 GT 8800 and I think you'll be happy with the performance from this card and it's 200 less than the GX2. The main thing I have seen is the cooling of the card is most important and I haven't heard any bad things about the EVGA brand. The 8800's I got are the MSI 8800 GT 512 OC and they have a slight overheating issue. As long as I run them with the fans at 100% when playing games I don't have a problem. That's the main thing I would watch for on whatever card you buy. The enclosure ones are for obvious reasons the harder ones to ensure they have good air flow. With the rep. EVGA has and depending on your case these cards will give you the performance you are looking for.
The one thing I will add is if your thinking of ever running SLI or crossfire don't wait too long between card purchases since the cards for SLI have to be identical. I don't know about crossfire since I've never tried that configuration. The reason I say don't wait too long is, as you know, the rapid progression of video technology makes it tough to come back after a few months and get the same card you already have.
      Hope this help bro.

      Cheers

yea i have the new gx2 but they arent that much a difference with the 8800gts 512,

im planning on selling one of the gx2.

with the gx2 on AoC, i get about 45-60fps on high settings.

What resolution? GX2's are very fast. 2 of them are stupidly fast. I wouldn't be suprised if you were bottlenecked.

                atm i only have 21inch widscreen. i just ordered a 28inch widescreen.
yes they are amazingly fast, but when i play AoC the fps drops half, not sure if its just AoC, cause the game itself is buggy and not complete yet.

i did a stress test on HL2 i came up with 120+fps, nothing in my pc is OC'd.

Yeah I'd venture to guess you are CPU limited.... if you slapped in a E8500 OCed or Q9450 OCed you'd notice those bad boys kick in.

                        I don't even think a Q9450 would let the 9800GX2 x 2 let rip.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
